Football World Cup, often also called FIFA World Cup, Mundial is the main international football competition. The World Cup is held by the governing body of world football - FIFA, and men's national teams of FIFA member countries from all continents can participate in it.
In 1909, Sir Thomas Lipton organized a tournament in Turin, which was later called "The Very First World Championship". The Italians, Germans and Swiss sent the strongest professional clubs to this tournament, but the English Football Federation refused the offer to do the same. Realizing that without the participation of the founders of British football, the tournament could not be considered serious, Lipton invited an amateur football club from the north-east of England to participate in the tournament under the name West Auckland FC. Most of this team was made up of coal mine workers, but West Oakland won the tournament with the participation of professionals from the continent. In 1911, the English returned to Italy to defend the title they had won two years earlier and won the tournament again, beating Juventus in the final with a crushing 6-1 score.
