Nibbles QBasic - Classic Snake Game | Play Online for Free

Relive the MS-DOS days with Nibbles, the classic QBasic snake game. Play solo or grab a friend, eat numbers, grow your snake, and survive the maze online.

Game Intro: A Piece of PC History

If you grew up tinkering with early PCs in the 90s, there’s a good chance you remember Nibbles. Originally bundled alongside MS-DOS to show off the capabilities of the QBasic programming language (under the legendary file name NIBBLES.BAS), this game is a massive piece of retro computing history. Coded by Rick Raddatz, it’s basically the granddaddy of the modern Snake genre.

Whether you're booting it up for a pure hit of nostalgia or you're a new player wanting to see where these arcade mechanics took root, Nibbles still holds up. It strips away all the modern bells and whistles, leaving you with raw, reflex-testing gameplay that gets incredibly frantic the longer you survive.

How to Play

The concept is incredibly straightforward, but actually surviving past the first few stages takes real focus. You drop into a walled arena controlling a constantly moving snake, and your objective is to hunt down the numbers that pop up on the screen in sequence, counting up from 1 through 9.

Every time you snag a number, you rack up points, but there's a catch: your snake gets significantly longer. The challenge ramps up fast. You have to steer clear of the outer walls, dodge the obstacles placed inside the level, and make sure you don't accidentally crash into your own ever-growing tail. Once you eat the number 9, the level clears, and you immediately jump to the next stage. With every new level, the game cranks up the movement speed and drops you into a far more complex, punishing maze.

Multiplayer Chaos: One of the best features of Nibbles is the local co-op. You can crowd around the same keyboard with a friend, each taking control of your own snake. It completely shifts the dynamic, turning a solo survival run into a hilarious, cutthroat race to steal numbers while actively trying to box the other player in so they crash.
