Exolon: REDUX - Shooting Game | Play Online for Free

Experience a faithful reimagining of the 8-bit classic. Dive into Exolon: REDUX to battle through five levels of alien-infested flick-screen action.

A Gritty Trip Down Memory Lane

If you spent any time glued to a ZX Spectrum or Commodore 64 back in the day, the name Raffaele Cecco probably triggers some serious nostalgia. Exolon: REDUX is a polished, modern love letter to his 1987 classic. It manages to capture that specific "European sci-fi" vibe—where everything feels slightly lonely, incredibly dangerous, and strangely beautiful.

You’re dropped onto a hostile alien planet as a lone futuristic soldier, and honestly, the odds are stacked against you. It’s a flick-screen action game, meaning every time you hit the edge of the screen, you’re thrust into a brand-new layout of chaos. It’s punishing, it’s rhythmic, and it feels exactly like the kind of game you’d play while huddled over a glowing CRT monitor on a Saturday morning.

How to Play: Strategy Over Button-Mashing

Exolon isn't just about running and gunning; it's about crowd control and hazard management. You’ve got five levels to clear, but they are dense. You’ll be navigating a gauntlet of alien lifeforms, heat-seeking missiles, and landmines that will end your run in a heartbeat if you’re careless.

The gameplay loop centers on your two main tools:

  • The Blaster: Your standard rapid-fire weapon for clearing out smaller enemies and turrets.
  • Rocket-Propelled Bombs: These are your heavy hitters. Use them to take out hardened structures or clear paths through debris.

The "Bravery" Dilemma

About halfway through each level, you’ll find an upgrade pod. Stepping inside grants you a heavy exoskeleton, turning you into a walking tank with boosted firepower. It makes life significantly easier. However, the game throws down a gauntlet: if you’re skilled (or crazy) enough to finish the level in your basic suit, you earn a massive Bravery Bonus. It’s a classic risk-vs-reward mechanic that keeps you coming back to perfect your run.

The Controls

The game keeps it simple, mirroring the tight arcade layouts of the 80s. It’s also gamepad compatible, which I highly recommend if you want that authentic console feel.

  • Movement: Arrow Keys
  • Jump: X
  • Fire: C
  • Pause: Esc
